This is the first instalment of digital mixing from the Aphrodisiac workshops. A moochy, groovy blend of deep house with some dub disco undertones possibly suitable for some recreational culinary activities.

I’d probably make pancakes to this mix- maybe wearing a small, floral pinafore and some pink rubber gloves. I would – but I have no eggs.

Two things are fairly apparent upon relistening:

1. my needles are about as sharp as the wit at an accountants’ convention in Helsinki in the merry month of dismay and…
2. if I keep practicing I met get the hang of this mixing lark (eventually).

Once upon a time there were strange people standing in a muddy field before a crowd of funky ravers.

They stood behind 2 machines made by Technics with the number1200 stamped upon them.

Plastic discs turned round and around. They placed metal pins called needles upon these discs and a beautiful sound was heard…

Please find below a small mix of some house classics – from ‘92 and ‘93. Genuine vinyl, genuine crackles and genuine mistakes.

This tune has undergone vast changes recently. It transformed from a strange pixie waltz to a deranged calypso and finally settled as it is.

Currently a moochy, groovy thing. Formulated in Cubase again – with hints of Toni Braxton but not enough to upset anybody…

Somebody asked me recently ‘where’s the bass line?’ (thank you Mrs O)

A salient point – there’s not enough bass lines in the world – especially those big, fat and funky ones.

Here’s one I rustled up in the toolshed – it’s mostly Cubase (with some Albino synth and Moog VST providing the squelchy bits) with a pinch of real harmonica and a smattering of ‘Shannon – Let the music play’. A classic combination best served over a delicately roasted dancefloor.

It’s just a preview and will no doubt get mauled, tweaked and rewritten a Brazillion times…
