What keeps me awake at night…

…you’d think with the current state of the universe that I’d have enough to fuel my insomniatic tendencies – international terrorism, worldwide famine and poverty, carbon emissions spiralling out of control to the point where we all just get microwaved to death whilst sitting watching Coronation Street on a thursday evening.

What plucks me from the comforting arms of slumber twixt dusk and dawn is the rabid beast of CSS – more specifically how to make lickle tiny calendar-style date displays for my blog…

I need to get out more. Or stay in more. Or less of both. Or something…

I didn’t surf today. Yet.

PS if you want to know the solution I came up with you can get the code here.

A fun day in…

…fuelled by a grade 3 hangover and a cheese and ham sandwich I undertook the massive challenge of moving Papersurfer from one hosting company to another. Not content with the overwhelming complexity of the task at hand I also decided a new theme design would be in order. A somewhat foolish errand but overall things have unfurled very smoothly.

Having read several articles on ‘mySQL migration’ and ‘database management’ I opted for completely ignoring them and instead went for pressing the big button that said ‘EXPORT’ in my dashboard then I went to my new blog site (a one-click install of WordPress at Dreamhost) and clicked the big button that said ‘IMPORT’.

I wouldn’t attempt this sequence of actions unless you fully understand the consequences of those 2 instructions and have the appropriate sofa equipment to support you for the rest of the day that you now have spare…

I didn’t surf today. I was being very technical and boffiny…

New wordpress theme anyone…?

… well it took me a while to iron out all the small print (and draw tiny little campervans) but my first full WordPress theme is done and dusted. If anybody likes the look of it and is running a wordpress.org site then you can download this for free at gtzero.com (or click on the preview above).

Any feedback would be good – especially any functionality issues/requests for future themes…

I did surf today. It was small, windy and mushy and my ears are full of sand but I loved it….

Been a bit busy lately…

… so my apologies for a lack of posts in a Papersurfer style. Apart from all the intercontinental canoodling antics with the deliciously beautiful Tango (grrr) – I’ve been up to my excessively pierced ears in CSS building a bunch of websites. First up is the Emporium – just a notepad for my WordPress and CSS discoveries – anything that I think may be useful (to loonies like myself who want to make their own blogs that is…).

You can find that by clicking here.

Also I’ve been whittling an online portfolio called GTZero for myself and Tiggz to share our graphical output with the universe at large.

That can be found by clicking here. There are wallpapers, PC themes and icon sets available for free download. I will also be uploading a few WordPress themes in the near future for public consumption…

Both sites are in beta so apologies for any howling errors or graphical misconduct.

I didn’t surf today. Going back to Surfugal tomorrow though…

WordPress blindness

cup of tea

Well that about finishes me off for the day. I have been struggling to get wordpress, phpmyadmin and a mySQL database sorted out all blinkin’ day. My host neglected to give me any ‘permissions’ – apparently.

The famous ‘5 minute install’ has turned into 5 hours!

This was supposed to be an exercise in making life easier for myself by not having to do a daily dose of code writing – obviously that was never going to be the case – but in the long run victory will be mine…

Anyway, my apologies for the ‘minimalist’ look – all will be back to normal when I get the time to customize the stylesheet properly.

If you are wondering where the rest of the site went it will be here for a few days.

Time for a nice cup of tea.
